THE REFUGE
It rises at the head of Preda Rossa Valley, South of Disgrazia Mountain. It is the final eastern leg of Sentiero Roma, well-known high altitude itinerary in the Alps.
Dedicated to the memory of Cesare Ponti, Milanese banker and Member of the Board of our Section, the refuge was renovated between 1984-86.
HOW TO REACH THE REFUGE
From SS 36 in Valtellina, pass the village of Talamona, turn left, go up Masino Valley, and reach Filorera. Since 2010 the local administration has introduced a € 5.00 toll, payable at Filorera and Casteggio Tabacchi/Bar. Follow the signs to Predarossa and Ponti Refuge. The paved road is closed near a landslide. Take a diversion on unpaved road on the other side of the valley for 1.8 km. Then, continue and reach the wide parking lot at Predarossa. Path to the refuge (white/red sign), in 2h.
