THE REFUGE
The two buildings are located in the higher Porcellizzo Valley, dominated by Pizzo Badile and Cengalo. They are at the western edge of Sentiero Roma, one of the most classic high altitude itineraries in the Alps. Capanna Badile was built in 1887, and it was later destroyed by an avalanche. In 1913 alpinist Luigi Gianetti provided money to CAI Milano for the construction of a new refuge, destroyed during World War II, and eventually rebuilt in 1948. In 1961 the old Capanna Badile was replaced by a brand new building, that was dedicated to the memory of alpinist Attilio Piacco, fallen on Punta Torelli.
June 29th and 30th, 2013, Giannetti Refuge celebrated its 100th anniversary with a rich program of events and shows.
HOW TO REACH THE REFUGE
From Bagni di Masino (1172 m) in the valley with the same name, take the road leaving behind the thermal compound, avoid crossing the stream, and continue into the valley on the muletrack that climbs through fir woods up to Baite di Corte Vecchia (1405 m), and Casera Zoccone (1899 m), with wonderful views, especiallly near Pizzo Cengalo. One more stretch uphill, and the refuge is past a small plateau (3.30h).
